David Cale is an English born writer and actor currently living in New York City. He is the author and performer of seven solo shows that have been presented in theatres throughout the U.S. He wrote the book, lyrics, co-composed the music for, and played Floyd in the musical ‘Floyd and Clea Under the Western Sky’, which premiered at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre and subsequently ran Off-Broadway in New York at Playwrights Horizons, receiving an Outer Critics Circle Nomination for Best New Off-Broadway Musical. He has written the lyrics for songs recorded by artists including Deborah Harry, Jimmy Scott, Richard Butler (of The Psychedelic Furs), Freedy Johnston and The Jazz Passengers, and performed in concert by Elvis Costello with the Passengers at venues including The Royal Festival Hall and The Barbican. His songs have been featured on the film soundtracks of Suzan Pitt’s ‘Joy Street’ and Robert Altman’s ‘Short Cuts’.
